A friend.....gone

Today I learned I had lost a friend of 14 years. He had shared my home, my family and several meals with us. He came to us on a rainy stormy day...the same day our oldest granddaughter was born 14 years ago. When we found him he was sick so we nursed him back to health and he became a member of the family. He was funny, cuddly and gave the best kisses. He was always friendly to our cats and never harmed a person that I know of. (even when the police maced him last year while chasing a robber thru our yard) The last few years his health has declined and even though he was deaf and blind I still loved him. Good-bye dear Max...people can say what they will about pit bull dogs...I have been blessed to have known 2 of the best in the world...sadly they are both gone. I will not get another pit to replace these....the laws and inner breeding do make them to difficult to have now. Pity...I have never known such loyalty, comapanionship and like I said the best kissers! Rest now my friend...your journey here is done...run in your fields now and think of me once in a while as I will you. I love you Max...my dog...my friend.

  1. Crying like a baby. Those wonderful balls of fur that carve a spot in your heart, so deep it can never be filled by another.

  6. Hi Beth,
Oh my heart breaks for you and the loss of your dear beloved Max. He sounds like such a joy. I know how difficult it is to lose a loved pet as I have been through it so many times too.

I am sure Max is romping with his furry friends and is so blessed for having lived with you and had you in his life.

You are such a dear heart my friend.
    Love to you, Celestina Marie

  9. Beth - my heart goes out to you. They teach you the real meaning of unconditional love and then they leave too soon.

  10. I am so sorry you lost your dear Pit. I too have a Pit and she is the best dog we have ever owned. Being a Vet Tech I have only seen one bad Pit and it was due to brain cancer. Big hugs my dear friend.

  11. Thank you all so much for your kind words of comfort. I know my Max is in a better place where he does not have to suffer one of our freezing winters again...must be more cold for him as he was older and the short hair did nothing to help. I feel so bad for this particular breed of dogs, most people cringe when you say you have a pit. Most of the things wrong with pits are the owners. True, I would never trust my grandkids alone with him..but thats true of any dog...we as owners must accept the responsibilities of the pets we bring into our homes. I doubt we will get another pit sadly, as the laws in the city are too steep for us to get that high risk insurance needed to own one. Unfortunately I will feel safer in my home having another dog...just which breed? I know getting a puppy is the only way to go with having Jackson here oh but I so hate puppy messes!!! On the other hand nothing beats a warm puppy belly and kisses! Again thank you all, and miss you Max!

  13. Hi Beth
I read your story, our friends comments, and Lori Cook's story.

I never owned a Pit. But my brother-in-law did and so did his best friend. Both dogs were the biggest babies you have ever seen and the most loving.

I'm not sure about the inbreeding theory. But I think that someday you will see another dog that will grab your heart and squeeze tight and you will be hooked.

I lost Dino 10 years ago. I will never have the strong attachment to another. But I did see Jack on TV. A rescue dog looking for a new home. He grabbed and hung on tight and I have been blessed with another canine friend.

  14. Beth your sweet babies are waiting for you at the "Rainbow Bridge" and you will see them again! You are a loving person and if you ever look to start a new friendship pit bull or not you go with your heart and not what a few bad people have made them out to be.

    Hugs

  17. I came over to catch up and am so sorry to hear of your loss of your beloved Max, I've been there many times and it's never easy on your heart when it's time to let them move on. I've never had a pit but have had relatives years ago and friends that did, they were always the biggest sweethearts.

Hugs to you, remember the shining happy moments with him.
